Edit Actor Settings

With the Actor Settings, you can adjust the settings for the greenscreen.

Actor Setup

Body Size: Use this slider to adjust the body size of the virtual representation of your actor in the virtual studio. Accurate size representation requires precise alignment of your video recording with the virtual template.

Adjust Video
With these parameters, you adjust your video recording to the representation in the virtual studio.

Adjustment View: Use this button to toggle the template for aligning your video recording with the virtual actor on and off (see image above on the right). With the following parameters, you can adjust your video recording to the yellow template figure. Try to align your recording as closely as possible to the template.

Fit Scale: Use this slider to scale your video recording larger or smaller.
Fit Horizontal: With this slider, you can shift your video recording to the right or left.
Fit Vertical: Use this slider to move your video recording up or down.

Remove Background
In this section, you'll use parameters to control the removal of the background in your greenscreen shots.

Mask View: Use this button to make the mask visible, which was calculated to remove the background. Black areas are removed, white areas are displayed.
In the default setting, with a clean shot, the green background should already be completely removed. However, adjustments might be necessary, and you can make them using the following parameters:

Key Color: Adjusts the hue of the background color to be removed.
Background: Determines how strongly the background should be removed. Increase the value if there are still parts of the green background visible; decrease it if parts of the foreground were removed.
Foreground: Adjusts how strongly the foreground (the person) is preserved. If there are green parts in the foreground, decrease the value. If the foreground has holes or eroded edges, increase the value.
Edge Softness: Determines the softness of the mask edge and can be used to make the edges of the foreground softer.
Spill Suppress: Adjusts how strongly excess green or green reflections from the foreground should be removed.
Crop Edges: Activate the "Open Crop Editor" button (preferably together with „Mask View") to potentially crop the image edges. Drag the orange border lines with the mouse to crop any unwanted parts of the image.

Enhance Image
With these parameters, you can adjust and enhance your video as needed:

Brightness: Increase or decrease the brightness of your image.
Contrast: Increase or decrease the contrast of your image.
Saturation: Increase or decrease the color saturation of your image.
Color Temperature: Increase or decrease the color temperature of your image.
Enhance Details: Enhance the representation of fine details to increase image sharpness.

Edit Camera View

With the Camera View settings, you can define the eight possible camera positions. To adjust a camera position, first select one of the camera settings in the bottom left corner. The selected camera position will be outlined in red. A single click on a camera setting triggers a movement to that setting, while a double click results in a quick transition. Now you can customize the camera position to your needs.

View Setting
Center Of Interest: With this parameter, you set the focal point to direct the viewer's interest to a specific point. The virtual motion camera automatically aligns itself with the chosen camera view.

There are four fundamental focal points available for the camera view:
1) Studio: Use this focal point when you want to showcase your studio as a whole, for example, at the beginning of your video to provide the viewer with an overview and overall impression that can help with orientation. This view is also well-suited for overlaying titles or similar graphics.

2) Actor: Use this option to direct the viewer's interest to the person in the studio. This view is perfect for sections of your video where the actor's facial expressions and gestures are particularly important.

3) Display: With this setting, the camera view is centered on the display. This view is excellent when you want to draw special attention to the media content on the display.

4) Actor & Display: Choose this view when the actor has direct relevance to the media content on the display, for example, when pointing directly to an element on the display content with their hands.

View Size: This parameter allows you to determine the size of the selected focal point in the frame. There are six size settings to choose from.
Wide-Angle View: Wide-angle perspective
Large View: Large perspective
Full View: Full perspective
Medium View: Medium perspective
Medium Close-Up: Medium close-up perspective
Close-Up: Close-up perspective

The size settings are always optimized for the selected focal point.

View Alignment: With this setting, you can determine whether the subject is centered or aligned using the rule of thirds (Golden Ratio).
View Direction: Use this parameter to set the direction from which the camera is looking at the focal point.

Adjust Frame
With these settings, you can fine-tune the selected camera view in detail.

Horizontal: Move the camera left or right.
Height: Move the camera down or up.
Distance: Bring the camera closer or farther away from the subject.
Direction: Adjust the camera's viewing direction.
Line Of Sight: Adjust the camera's line of sight up or down.

If you made changes to the frame adjustment and later change the view size, you may need to reset the frame adjustment to obtain the correct setting for the chosen view size.

Camera Shake
With these parameters, you can adjust whether the camera is fixed or if it slightly moves or shakes in its position. This allows you to introduce a certain liveliness into your camera movement.

Speed: Adjust how fast the camera should shake.
Intensity: Adjust how strong the camera's shake should be.

Display Media

You can load JPEG or PNG images into the app instead of using a live video source for the display. Simply drag and drop the image files from the Finder into the app's media list. Next, arrange the imported images on the trigger buttons in the lower area. You can assign up to 15 images, one to each button. To display the images on the display, simply click on one of the occupied buttons. The button on the far left in the top row switches back to the live video input.

To clear an assigned button, select another button so that the button you want to clear is no longer active. Then, while holding down the "Control" key, click on the button you want to clear.

If you want to remove an image from the media list, hover over the corresponding image with the mouse pointer and then click on the delete button [×] that appears in the upper right corner of the image. The image will be removed from the media list, and any assigned buttons will be cleared.

Image Size and Aspect Ratio:
The display has a 16:9 aspect ratio, and the optimal image size is 1920 × 1080 pixels. However, you can also import images in other sizes and aspect ratios. The images will be adjusted to fit the display while maintaining their aspect ratio. The maximum size for importing images is 6000 × 6000 pixels. Importing larger images may result in performance issues.

Live Video Output

To connect your virtual studio to a livestream or video conference, you have two connection options available. Depending on which connection is supported by your streaming or conferencing app, you can establish a connection using NDI or Syphon. Simply activate the respective button. You can also use both video outputs simultaneously.

Connect with any streaming or conferencing apps

You can use the free app "Open Broadcast Studio" (OBS) to make the live video output from Virtual Studio 1 available as a Virtual Webcam. Here's how:

1. If you haven't installed OBS yet, download and install OBS on your computer (https://obsproject.com). Follow the installation and setup instructions.
2. Activate the "Syphon Video Output" in the Virtual Studio 1 - Live app.
3. In OBS, create a new scene under "Scenes" and add a video source of type "Syphon Client" to this scene under "Sources". Choose "[Virtual Studio 1] Live Output" as the source.
4. Start the virtual camera in OBS (under "Controls" > "Start Virtual Camera“).
5. Open the video settings of your streaming or conferencing app and select "OBS Virtual Camera" as the video source.
